Posted Jan 15 Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, Columbus, OH The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is seeking two full-time mid-level planners for the Center for Energy & Environment. These positions require basic planning and research skills in land use, transportation planning, policy research, and the knowledge of geographic information systems. These positions require experience and skill in public presentations to both professional and lay audiences and the ability to facilitate decision-making and mediate differences among stakeholders with competing interests. Prior experience with community development, housing/and or economic development understanding a plus. Familiarity with planning at a watershed level is also a plus.
Primary duties of these positions include conducting field investigations and research; facilitating public and private meetings with stakeholders; designing project methodologies, data resources or project research techniques; performing statistical analysis of data and developing procedures and conclusions based on interpretation. These positions participate in the development of land use plans, comprehensive plans, and area studies as well as participate in the preparation of environmental impact statements or assessments.
These positions require research and knowledge of federal and state regulations and law in land use and transportation planning, including typical land use and transportation regulations and law of political subdivisions of the state such as counties, municipal corporations and townships. These individuals will work with government officials, citizen groups, professional organizations, etc. to build consensus around planning outcomes.
The candidates must have a working knowledge of the principles and techniques of urban or transportation planning. Familiarity with principles of Transit-Oriented Development and planning for Neo-Traditional Neighborhoods would be an advantage. Good communication (written and oral) abilities are essential. Candidates must be able to attend evening and weekend meetings outside of the office. Candidates must have a valid Ohio Driver’s license and good driving record. Excellent oral and written communication skills, creativity and strong research skills are important, along with the ability to be quick learners and team players. These positions require the ability to network and build relationships with other organizations, communities and stakeholders, while demonstrating leadership ability. Must have intermediate-level ability with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Candidates must have an advanced degree in City and Regional Planning, Transportation, Urban Planning, Geography or Economics is preferred. A BS/BA in these fields or similar planning related discipline combined with a minimum of two years planning experience is acceptable.
